Three Weeks

UPDATE: Tonight's visit to the hospital was full of good news. The twins will be out of their isolets tonight or tomorrow morning. They will lose their PICC lines tomorrow. Tristan lost his umbi cord stub and is also off the Vapotherm. Gaining weight steadily-Nickolas is almost a pound more than his birthweight. They are eating enough that they FINALLY need me to bring more milk... We are seriously getting so close. Bottles boys, BOTTLES!

Yesterday the twins turned 3 weeks old, and the difference from their last birthday was awesome! They act like they are feeling alot better, Nickolas is off the Vapotherm (I think its like a humidifier for their oxygen) and weaning Tristan off. They are being weaned from their IVs by increasing feedings again (but not fast enough, we are running out of freezer space with all the milk we have here!). Nickolas is more willing to take a bottle than Tristan, but the nurse yesterday said she thinks it wears Nickolas out, so if they did it every other feeding he might take a full feeding better. They are steadily going up in weight. They have improved so much on their apnea and cardio episodes (which got pretty bad when they were sick) that they have gone full days without having any and no longer have a page on their charts to keep track of them. The big exciting news yesterday was that they are going to be weaned out of their isolets! Their isolets are scheduled to be changed tomorrow, so the doc is aiming to have them out by then. So exciting!

Here are a few pictures from yesterday:
Nickolas-look at that little chunker!
Nickolas has turned into quite the binky boy.
Tristan-doesn't he look so much thicker than he did before?
I didn't even realize I managed to catch Tristan smiling. :) Notice his little owie on his head (in his hair above the white cord). He had an IV there and was laying on that side so all the fluid was collecting and got puffy. It was absorbed and went down, but when removing the IV the tape pulled some skin, and what you see is scabbed over. Poor guy, I know just how he feels. I got blood drawn in the same spot like 6 times and had the same thing happen. The scab is finally gone, but I think I'm going to have a permanent scar.

Oh, they are so cute and pudgy! I can't wait to see them again. Once I get over this cold/allergies, I need a baby fix. I'm in love!

Glad the boys are feeling better. I have a big freezer in my bmst and would be happy to store your milk if you need or want me to. I'm in WJ so it would be close to the hospital.

I think it's amazing what modern medical technology can do for itty bitty babies. And then when it's time, these little boys won't need it anymore. Awesome.
