Moving On: The Mommy Dilemma

In our current living situation we have 2 bedrooms. One for us, one for the kids. All 3 of them. It works, but I'm not thrilled with the current arrangement. As you can see below there are various beds, dressers, toy boxes, hampers EVERYWHERE. I realize the twins are still a bit small for a bed, but its tax return time, and I want to start brainstorming.

I want to move the green dresser (doors for a cabinet and only 2 drawers at the bottom) to the Dining Room to replace the Coffee Table that's there now housing overflow pantry space (since I OBVIOUSLY don't use it for folded laundry...). For maximum space saving bedwise, I want to do bunkbeds. But there are alot of possibilities.

Twin over Twin Bunkbed with Twin Trundle and Space Saving Stairs

Twin over Twin Bunkbed with Twin Trundle

 Twin over Full Bunkbed

There's also a Twin over Full Bunkbed with Twin Trundle, but I don't think we need quite that many beds!

Now let's look at some Pros, Cons, and Questions.
-Josh and I currently sleep on a Full and want to get a Queen, so that's one less mattress we'd have to buy if we got a Twin over Full.
-We have a guard rail that can be added to the lower bunk to hold a baby in (see first picture, Joey's bed).
-We tried the boys together in one crib and they were waking each other up. I didn't want to buy another crib for about a year, thus we have Nick sleeping in the Pack n Play. Shortly after we moved him we changed the bedtime routine slightly, and the combination of the two fixed the sleeping problems.
-Can the guard rail be used on the lower bunk if there's a Trundle?
-Alot of the bunk beds can be separated. Eventually when we have a bigger house and the kids can spread out more we could use the Full as a guest bed if we went that route.
-A trundle isn't far to fall, so I feel pretty safe with that. Or is it too dangerous?
-A Full with the rail and properly placed ladder could more or less make a giant crib, with room to grow.

I would appreciate any and all feedback, I just don't know what to do, but I want CHANGE!

You could do the bunk with the full on bottom and don't buy the trundle yet. You could try one boys head at one end and one boys head at the other. It would be huge so maybe the extra room would work. We just had the flu at our house and Bryant had it and I didn't. We used seperate blankets, but slept on the same bed to try and keep me from getting it. I didn't wake up once those nights we had seperate blankets. (I don't know what it is but he is sooooo noisy when he rolls and takes the whole blanket) Anyway maybe each boy could have their own blanket and then you can save the money on the trundle and mattress so you can put your full one on there and get the queen for you. Does that idea help?

Well..... I like all of the beds, but if you are going for space saving I like the bunk bed with the stairs. It takes care of toy boxes, and the bulk of the room can be on one wall. And its nice to tuck one bed in during the day. Good luck...I am sure it will turn out great... Post pictures when you're done...

I love the bunk with the stairs and the trundle. It's really cute and the drawers are a great place to store stuff such as toys. In fact when I saw it, I wished we had had it for our kids. I had a day bed with a trundle when I was growing up. When I had sleep overs my friends would sleep in the trundle bed. It was fine, and didn't seem unsafe.

Good luck with everything! Fun making decisions, isn't it?

When I was little, my three youngest siblings shared a room. We had a twin over full bunk bed and the middle child slept in the twin and the two youngest shared the full. It worked out very well until the boys and girls were too old to share a room. Since you'd be putting the twins on the full, I'd say go for that (as long as the twin can be separated at some point for Joey to get away from the boys). I do love them all though! The trundles are super handy for extra space...when one actually puts them away. If it was me, they'd stay out all day...made if I was lucky! LOL Can't wait to see what you do with the space!

I can't tell you how many stories I have heard of little ones getting seriously hurt by climbing and playing on bunk bed ladders. That is also somthing to consider. The bunk bed with the stairs would probably be safer...But all three of them are really cute! Good luck deciding.

i do really like the stair one...organizing space is such a tricky thing, have you looked at ikea? i always seem to find some amazing idea i never would have thought of there...
