A lesson learned

I don't like to think of myself as a person who takes things for granted. I know we have to work for what we have and we've definitely had our share of trials, though I know they've been small compared to what others have to deal with. Yesterday I was corrected.

Josh went back to work after a nice, long Thanksgiving break, and found out Monday his co-workers has been told they are changing our health insurance, and not in a good way. We used to have a nice co-pay, and then of course we had to pay extra when Joey was born, but hi, that was a hospital stay. What do you expect? Well, as new parents we didn't know what to expect, and some of that was alot more than we were expecting. Having a baby is not cheap.

After learning our new policy I wondered if we'd ever be able to have another child. We now have a yucky deductible we meet as a family, THEN we pay 20% after that! Copays-gone. Luckily preventative care the deductible is waived, and that includes normal office visits and immunizations. But we still pay 20% of that stuff, and it makes me grateful Jocelyn is almost 2 and doesn't have appointments near as often as when she was younger. I'm also grateful we're a pretty healthy family. Josh does have his acid reflux, and they still had him on allergy medication in addition to the reflux medication, but without the nice copay on prescriptions, those could get expensive fast, so he's talking about quitting the allergy medication. At least we no longer live with a cat, so hopefully he won't need it too much.

They're giving each employee a start in a health savings account, but not near enough to do any good. So needless to say, we took health insurance for granted, and we'll be stocking up on hand sanitizer. ;)
