Let me start off by saying, the above picture is my two favorite people in the world. My wonderful husband and sweet baby (still my baby!) girl. But this is a very common scene. This was from Joey's birthday party. I was truly impressed that she opened most of the presents on her own, and not in Mommy or Daddy's lap like at all of our Christmas celebrations. I'm sure it comes from currently being the only child and being SO LOVED, but she spends so much time in my lap! We're talking a good part of every day. Most of the time I don't mind, and even enjoy snuggling with my Princess, but sometimes it is most inconvenient. Like when she's just handed me her sippy cup, and 4 toys, while my laptop is balancing in my lap, and she expects me to help her up onto the couch. Or we're sitting on the couch together, I with my laptop (ok, we probably do too much tv and laptop, I'm slowly working on that), and she suddenly stands up, puts one leg over my legs and I have to quickly move my laptop to the couch next to me so she doesn't sit on it. I'm trying to gently break her of the habit, as we have a new little one on the way. My lap is going to be disappearing for one, and when baby comes and is so dependent on Mommy, I know its going to be hard on her.
Today after Joey's nap she started playing with her toys in her room instead of rushing off to the living room asking for a show. So I thought, Perfect! I'll hang out on her bed so I can have something soft for my tooshie and a wall to lean against so my back won't hurt too much. Next thing I know there is a pile of toys in my lap and she expects me to lift her over the bar, and into my lap. So I moved to the floor and let her play on the bed. A couple of minutes later I have a bunch of kitchen toys in my hands and lap, as well as a toddler. So I told her to sit in her Tinkerbell chair, which worked for a couple of minutes, and I took the opportunity to roll over and lay on my stomach (while I still can). She's now "cooking" on my back. Sigh. Baby steps.
At least she's not wearing undies and going to leak on me for some serious potty training as I had originally planned for the day. Too nauseus to go that route this morning. Yet another reason I want to find those plastic/rubber underpants we used when we were kids. Its one thing to change her clothes and use some upholstry cleaner on my new couches and carpet. But if she's in my lap all day....1) eww, 2) I need to invest in some more pants to go through.

Let me tell you about my experience from potty training 2 at once - I tried soon after they turned 2 and Carmel would go if I sat her on the potty, Claire on the other hand started to resist being sat on the potty. After a week or so, I decided to stop trying since one was resisting and the other would only go if I was doing the work. About 2 months later - Claire woke up and told me she had to go potty and from then on - they were potty trained - we had a few accidents and every so often we still have one but it was so easy to do when they were really ready. I also kept a potty upstairs and downstairs and no clothing on the bottom other than panties for the first little while. Good luck!
Good luck with the potty training! I like all the cute pics of Joey on your blog...she is a cutie!
Oh, and I like your blog background, too :)
Thanks Missy! I saw that you had a website, so I went to check it out and couldn't resist. :)
