Prenatal Visit

Today was my first prenatal visit. I was expecting to go in, sit in the waiting room forever (which I did), pee in a cup (which I did), have a quick chat with the doctor an ultrasound to make sure all is well and be on my way. Not quite.

All went according to plan until the ultrasound.
Doc: "I have some good news and bad news"
Me: Now looking at the monitor "Is that two?!"
Doc: "Yep. Congratulations."

Oh my heavens! Twins?! We are so not ready for this! I should have known going by myself I was jinxing myself for this.

Everything looks good. Babies are measuring exactly where they should be. I saw both little heartbeats fluttering away. My due date is September 16, although he said expect to deliver mid-August and most likely go on bed rest in July because the problem with twins is the risk of pre-term labor, so I should have everything ready before that. Yeah, sure, no problem! I go back again in 4 weeks with another ultrasound, and will probably start going every 2 weeks after that. There will be LOTS of ultrasounds and delivery will be in the OR as a precaution (they do that with multiples), with the possibility of needing a C-section with a nurse from Level II Nursery (where Joey stayed) on hand for each baby. So much for that dream of having a normal delivery of a healthy baby who can actually room with me. Sigh.

So now Josh and I get to worry about a growing list of things: paying for diapers, paying for formula, paying for double everything for the rest of their lives, is our car big enough, we can't afford a bigger car because of all the medical bills we're expecting......WOW!!

Really, it'll be exciting....once I get over the shock.

I know things are daunting now, but the Lord saw fit to send them you, and he'll provide a way for you to be the best parents imaginable. You're in our prayers. We love you.
