4 Months

The twins are 4 months old, can you believe it?! I sure can't.Nickolas, Tristan

We visited the doctor today and this is what we found out:

Nickolas:
Height: 22 1/2" ... <5%
Weight: 10 lbs 14 oz ... <5%
Head: 42 1/4 cm ... 50%

Tristan:
Height: 22 1/4" ... <5%
Weight: 10 lbs 8 oz ... <5%
Head: 41 3/4 cm ... 40%

So, they have big heads, lol. Even thought they are still below the chart they are following the curve right where they should be, and eventually they will make the jump into "the norm". But they started out pretty far behind, so they are still doing good. We still have to fortify their food to 24 calories for awhile, but its making them chubbily cute, so I won't complain. :) 4 months is when alot of babies are recommended to start solids, but with them being preemies I wasn't sure if we should or not. She didn't mention it and I forgot until we were halfway home, so I'm thinking we'll wait a month or so and then try.

Developmentally they are pretty close to where a 4 month old should be which is outstanding for these guys because of how early they were, but she wants them to have an early intervention evaluation to make sure they don't get behind and have to go back and fix something later on.

Also, she noticed Nick really only wanted to lay on the right side of his head, and I've noticed it too. Its starting to flatten out. :( So to prevent him from having to wear a helmet later I'm supposed to do whatever I can to get him to lay on the other side of his head. This afternoon I noticed him watching the tv as I was swaddling him, so I layed him on the floor so that he'd be laying on the left side to watch it, and he seriously watched Joey's shows with her this afternoon. My kids are tv junkies. Great motivation. :S He's also being propped up on his side when he sleeps which should help alot, because man that kid likes his sleep. No wonder he's the smiley one when he's awake. :) But the biggest thing is I'm supposed to call and get him some physical therapy because apparently its a pinched or tight muscle in his neck that causes him to do that. And I, being the horrible mother and tightwad with a crappy insurance plan that I am, immediately started seeing dollar signs. $igh.

They both love lights, especially the multi-colored ones on our Christmas tree, and are starting to show more signs of babbling, cooing, and laughing. Smiles aren't too hard to come by anymore if you talk baby-talk to them, but Peek-a-boo is still not exciting, just weird. They sleep through the night great (even though in my book its an early hour to get up).

And here's all my sweets at 4 months old

I'll totally show you the stretch we did with Trace when he was having trouble favoring one side of his head. It'll save you the trip to physical therapy, just like it saved us! Little stink wouldn't look at things on his bad side. He'd lay and stare at a wall! It's a really easy stretch and really makes a difference on their little necks, although it does make them squeal pretty good! Also, apparently kids aren't starting solids now until about 6 months so you're not behind! Love you!

I'm excited for my playdate with those cuties in a couple weeks! They are getting so chubby! And none of my kids started solids until they were 6 months, because if anything it helps prevent food allergies, so they'll be fine waiting a bit longer, especially since they're getting those extra calories in their bottles anyway.
